The Coastal Computer Station provides computer training for people with disabilities or special needs. Small class sizes of 4-6 people allow a relaxed, personalized learning environment. Students receive instruction in a variety of skills including:
- Keyboarding
- Access & use of the Internet
- Preparation of a resume
- Job search & research
- Use of self-guided software tutorials
Since the first class in 2003, Shangri-La has partnered with many community organizations to provide a free or low-cost computer training for people who have been unable to access technology, due to cost or barriers, in the past.
Classes Serve:
People with developmental disabilities
Vocational Rehabilitation clients
Senior Citizen Groups
High School Special Education Students
ESL/English as Second Language Students
Some individuals also lack access to a personal computer, so refurbished systems are given to these graduates. This enables many to continue using their new skills and even learn independently through self-directed on-line tutoring.
